Seismic hazard is the threat of possible major earthquake,
which results in severe shaking.
Seismic hazard assessment is a maximum magnitude of possible
shaking caused by earthquake occurred in the area. Assessment
results in seismic zonation map compilation, which reflects
territorial distribution of seismic hazard.
Subject to area seismic zonation detailing the general and
specific seismic zonation and seismic microzonation are being
outlined.
General seismic zonation is performed for vast territory,
for example, territory of state.
Detailed seismic zonation is performed for specific territories
of provinces and districts.
Seismic Risk is a human, property and other losses caused
by the earthquake.
Seismic Risk is stipulated by human activity and depends on
many factors such as seismic resistance of buildings and structures
and population density. Level of risk could vary subject to
meteorological, engineering and geological, societal and economic,
etc. conditions.
Seismic Risk is classified into primary risk and secondary
risk.
Primary risk is connected with human and property losses related
directly to earthquake.
Secondary risk reflects losses caused by the primary risk,
for example, environment contamination, pandemics, deterioration
of population psychological societal condition, failure of
state life-lines, secondary economic losses etc.
Seismic risk assessment could be done for the whole territory
of state as well as for different settlements and objects.
