Current seismic regime

Seismic Regime from March 1 to March 7, 2007
No M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. No seismic activity was recorded in this region.
National observation network has recorded 9 anomaly changes of various parameters at 8 observation stations. Those stations are as follows: Surenavan, Karchaghbyur, Tsovagyugh and Ararat (geochemistry), Shirakamut, Vanadzor, Parakar and Vardenis (subsoil radon), Karchaghbyur (underground water) that are mainly located across the central territory of Armenia, mainly in Yerevan, Pambak-Sevan and Sotk active fault lines.
No M6 earthquake has been recorded in the region.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On March 6 in Indonesia, 50km to the northeast from Padangh town of Sumatra island a strong M6.4 earthquake was occurred. 2 hours later at the same epicenter it was followed by another M6.3 strong earthquake. The earthquake resulted in more than 70 people dead, lifelines were damaged and more than hundred buildings were destroyed. Being afraid of possible tsunami a number of local residents left the seashore. However, according to the comments of seismologists there is no tsunami risk in the island as the depth of earthquake hypocenters is 30-35km. The earthquakes were recorded in Singapore and Malaise that are 430 km far form the earthquake zone. People still remember the destructive earthquake on December 2004 and the tsunami followed by it, which resulted in about 230 thousand people dead. The Indonesia is considered to be a seismic active zone where strong earthquakes are often occurred.

 

 

Seismic Regime from February 22 to February 28, 2007
No M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. No seismic activity was recorded in this region.
National observation network has recorded 9 anomaly changes of various parameters at 11 observation stations. Those stations are as follows: Surenavan, Karchaghbyur, Tsovagyugh and Ararat (geochemistry), Shirakamut, Vanadzor, Parakar and Vardenis (subsoil radon), Karchaghbyur (underground water) that are mainly located across the central territory of Armenia, mainly in Yerevan, Pambak-Sevan and Sotk active fault lines.
The following earthquakes were recorded in the region. On February 28, in Turkey, 55km to the south from Elyazig town an earthquake of 6-7 value on intensity scale was recorded. On February 21 the stronger earthquake of 7-8 value on intensity scale was recorded in this region as well.
The following strong earthquake was recorded off the region. On February 24, near the shores of the Northern Peru, 65km to the southwest from Chiklayo town a strong M6.4 earthquake was occurred. There is no information about dead and injured people.

 

 

Seismic Regime from February 15 to February 21, 2007
An earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On February 18, at 06:32, in the bordering area of Armenia-Turkey, 32km to the west from Artashat town an earthquake was recorded. The intensity of the earthquake at the epicenter was 3 value on intensity scale. This region is known to seismologist by Dvin historical earthquake occurred on December 27, 893 A.D. Yerevan active deep fault is crossing here.
National observation network has recorded 11 anomaly changes of various parameters at 9 observation stations that are mainly located across the central and western territory of Armenia, mainly in Yerevan, Akhuryan and Pambak-Sevan active fault lines.
The following earthquakes were recorded in the region. On February 17, in Turkey, 25km to the northwest from Sarighamish town an earthquake of 5-6 value on intensity scale was recorded. On February 19, in Turkey, 28km to the northwest from Karakyose town an earthquake of 5 value on intensity scale was occurred. On February 21, again in Turkey, 39km to the south from Elyazig town an earthquake of 5 value on intensity scale was recorded. Some seismic activity is being recorded in this region.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On February 17, in Japan, 145km to the southwest from Kushiro town of Hokkaido Island a M6.0 earthquake was recorded. The earthquake was followed by M5.1 aftershock. On February 20, in Indonesia, 205km to the southwest from Ternate town of Molokai Island a strong M6.7 earthquake was occurred. There is no information about dead and injured people.

 

 

Seismic Regime from February 8 to February 14, 2007
Two small earthquakes of 2-3 value on intensity scale have been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On February 8, in the bordering area of Armenia-Georgia, 25km to the north from Stepanavan town an earthquake of 3 value on intensity scale was occurred. On February 11, 7km to the south from Ashotsk town an earthquake of 2 value on intensity scale was recorded.
The following earthquakes were recorded in the region. On February 9, in Turkey, 35km to the southeast from Baskil town an earthquake of 6-7 value on intensity scale was occurred. The earthquake caused panic among the population, resulted in 30 people injured and some constructions were damaged. The earthquake was felt in southeastern regions of Turkey. The earthquake was followed by 6 M2.8-3.3 aftershocks.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On February 11, in Indian Ocean, 130km to the northwest from Banda-Acheh town of Sumatra Island, Indonesia a M5.7 earthquake was recorded. It should be mentioned that the epicenter of this earthquake is in the same area as the epicenter of the devastative earthquake occurred on December 2004 in Indonesia. To the point, the tsunami was resulted in 300000 people dead. On February 12, 125km to the southeast from General Santos town of Mindanao Island, Philippine a strong M6.1 earthquake was occurred.

 

 

Seismic Regime from February 1 to February 7, 2007
5 small M≥3 earthquakes have been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia and its adjacent countries in the referred period. From February 2 to February 5, in the bordering area of Iran-Azerbaijan-Armenia, accordingly 27km, 45km, 52km and 65km to the east from Meghri town 4 earthquakes of 3 value on intensity scale were recorded. On February 4, in the bordering area of Armenia-Georgia, 27km to the west from Tashir town an earthquake of 3 value on intensity scale was occurred. Some seismic activeness is observed in the southeastern region of Armenia in the form of small earthquakes.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On February 4, in Caribbean Sea, 120km to the northwest from Monte Bay town of Jamaica Island a strong M6.2 earthquake was recorded. In the same day in the eastern part of Pacific, about 4700km to the southwest from Santiago town of Chili a strong M6.1 earthquake was occurred.

 

 

Seismic Regime from January 25 to January 31, 2007
An M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On January 29, 15km to the southwest from Vanadzor town an earthquake of 3-4 value on intensity scale was occurred. After 8 small earthquakes occurred on January 12-13 near Gavar no earthquake has been recorded in this territory any more.
The following earthquakes were recorded in the region. On January 27, in Turkey, 15km and 24km to the northwest from Tutak town two earthquakes of 4-5 value on intensity scale were occurred. In one week period there have been recorded 7 aftershocks of 4-5 value on intensity scale after the earthquake occurred on January 21 in Turkey, 13km to the northeast from Tutak town. The seismicity is still active in this region.
The following strong earthquake was recorded off the region. On January 25, near the shores of Taiwan, 80km to the east from Taitung town a strong M6.0 earthquake was occurred. The earthquake was felt by the population of Taipei. On January 30, 855km to the west from Macquarie Island of Australia a strong M6.8 earthquake was recorded. In the same day in Pacific, in the northern part of Mariana Islands a strong M6.3 earthquake was occurred. On January 31 in Pacific, 40km to the south from Raoul Island of Kermadec Islands of New Zealand a strong M6.5 earthquake was recorded.

 

 

Seismic Regime from January 18 to January 24, 2007
No M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period.
The following earthquakes were recorded in the region. On January 18, in Georgia, 7km to the southwest from Akhalkalak town an earthquake of 3-4 value on intensity scale was recorded. On January 21, in Turkey, 13km to the northeast from Tutak town an earthquake of 6 value on intensity scale was occurred. From January 21 to 24 5 aftershocks of 4-5 value on intensity scale were recorded. In two villages of Agri region buildings were damaged and the population got panic.
The following strong earthquake was recorded off the region. On January 21, in Indonesia, in Molucca Sea, 120km to the northwest from Ternate town of Moluccas Isls, a strong M7.5 earthquake was recorded. The earthquake was followed by 24 M≥5 aftershocks. The earthquake caused 3 people enjured, there were damages in constructions and the population got panic and left their houses.

 

 

Seismic Regime from January 11 to January 17, 2007

8 M≥3 earthquakes have been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On January 12, in the Gegharkyunik marz, 19km to the southwest from Gavar town an earthquake of 5-6 value on intensity scale was occurred. The earthquake was felt in number of settlements of the territory of Armenia, particularly in Lanjaghbyur, Gegharkyunik and Gavar- 4-5 value, Vardenis, Karchaghbyur, Sevan and Charentcavan - 4 value, Yerevan (Kanaqer, Avan, Norq massiv) - 3value on intensity scale. In the same day, almost in the same territory a weaker earthquake of 3-4 value on intensity scale was occurred. On the next day, two earthquakes of 3-4 value on intensity scale were recorded as well. National observation network has recorded 12 anomaly changes of radon gas and physical and chemical composition parameters at 13 observation stations that are mainly located across the central territory of Armenia.
On January 11, in Caspian Sea, 90km to the east from Makhachkala town, Dagestan, an earthquake of 6-7 value on intensity scale was recorded in the region.
The following strong earthquake was recorded off the region. On January 11, 505km to the southwest from Severo-Kurilsk town of Kuril Islands, Russia a strong M8.1 earthquake was recorded. The earthquake was followed by 13 M5 aftershocks. The earthquake caused panic among the population and they were evacuated by local authorities.

 

 

Seismic Regime from January 1 to January 10, 2007

An M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On January 4, in the bordering area of Armenia-Turkey, 32km to the northwest from Gyumri town an earthquake of 3 value on intensity scale was occurred.
Two earthquakes were recorded in the region. On January 4, in Iran, 34km to the northeast from Merend town an earthquake of 5 value on intensity scale was occurred. On January 8, in Turkey, 5km to the northwest from Ahlat town an earthquake of 4-5 value on intensity scale was recorded.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On January 8, 100km to the west from Misha town of Nikobar Islands, India, a strong M6.1 earthquake was recorded. On the same day, in Kyrgyzstan, 65km to the southeast from Suluktu town a strong M.6.1 earthquake was recorded. There are no dead and destructions. On January 9, in Fiji, 225km to the northeast from Ndoi Island an M6.2 earthquake was occurred. The earthquake was not followed by tsunami.

 

 

Seismic Regime from December 21 to 27, 2006

An M≥3 earthquake has been recorded by the NSSP seismic stations in the territory of Armenia in the referred period. On December 25, in the bordering area of Armenia-Iran, 33km to the southwest from Meghri town an earthquake of 5 value on intensity scale was occurred. National observation network has recorded 9 anomaly changes of radon gas and physical and chemical composition parameters at 7 observation stations that are mainly located across the central territory of Armenia.
2 M≥3 earthquakes were recorded in the region. On December 22, in Russia, 30km to the southwest from Grozni town an earthquake of 6-7 value on intensity scale was occurred. On December 26, in the bordering area of Turkey-Iran, 50km to the south from Dogubayazet town an earthquake of 5 value on intensity scale was recorded.
The following strong earthquakes were recorded off the region. On December 22, in Indian Ocean, to the southwest from Port Blair town of Andaman Islands, a strong earthquake was recorded. The earthquake caused panic among the population. On December 26, in Taiwan, 91km to the southeast from Kaohsyung town an M.7.1 earthquake was recorded. In the same day in Taiwan, 70km to the southeast from Kaohsyung town an M7 earthquake was occurred. The earthquake resulted in 2 people dead and 42 injured. There are destructions in the southern part of Taiwan. The earthquake was followed by one-meter tsunami.
